We are reading The Holy Sinner by Thomas Mann, and observe that its narrative and plot is similar to Chance of Alcatraz.
It is set in medieval Rome with the monk Clemens announcing the ringing of bells throughout the city.
Clemens, moved by the “spirit of storytelling,” tells the story of a the raft carrying the infant found by two fishermen in the English Channel.
It’s a legend, a journey, and timeless tale of being cast upon the waters and finally found against impossible odds.
Chance of Alcatraz has no bells…but it does have fog horns.
