Custom Classic Leather Book Covers by April in Paris

As a ferry rider, (alone) we value our anonymity and privacy. The nosy passenger sitting beside you may wish to steal a glance at what you are reading – or worse – start a conversation about the book or author.

A King Alone by Jean Giono, translated from the French by Alyson Waters, with an introduction by Susan Steward, is a NYRB classic purchased at Green Apple Books on Clement Street.

Just up the block is April in Paris, boutique and workshop of master leather artisan Béatrice Amblard.

This is where our custom book covers were commissioned and created.

Ms. Amblard’s atelier also created the larger cover to protect (and conceal) The Art of Forgery: The Minds, Motives and Methods of Master Forgers.

This work explores the stories, dramas and human intrigues surrounding the world’s most famous forgeries – investigating the motivations of the artists and criminals who have faked great works of art, and in doing so conned the public and the art establishment alike.

This is written by Noah Charney, published by Phaidon, and also purchased at Green Apple.

Now back to April in Paris:

“The sleek, sun-drenched location on colorful Clement Street is well known to Bay Area devotees for its extraordinary custom accessories.  All items are handcrafted using centuries-old traditional methods, and every item is one-of-a-kind.”
