Among the many joys of the San Francisco Opera’s summer season is the appreciation of the Encore Arts Programs, and the outstanding profiles contained in each edition.
We were especially delighted with the Orlando feature about Marilyn Horne’s remarkable career and legacy.
In the article written by Jeffery S. McMillan (SFO’s senior communications manager), we find marvelous Horne insight:
“The story (Orlando) is so great because you know he goes temporarily insane and surrogate madness is wonderful. It’s like surrogate death – a death scene. Nothing is better than that!”
We also discover how Horne mentored the show’s knockout star, Sasha Cooke.
The final performance is Thursday, June 27.
