Coming to a Ferry Near You: The Movies

This Autumn, the Red and White Fleet and The Roxie will partner to turn the hybrid electric vessel Enhydra into a sailing cinema for a limited run of nighttime film cruises on the Bay.

According to spokesmen, the 2-hour twilight cruise will feature films chosen by The Roxie.

The “Floating Features,” cruise departs from Pier 43 1/2.

The events are co-Presented by Film SF

Red and White staff note that the electric vessel “means no engine noise and a totally unique al fresco” movie experience.

This year’s titles include  “The Rock,” which may have special resonance for admirers of “Chance of Alcatraz.”

The plot: FBI chemical warfare expert Stanley Goodspeed (Nicolas Cage) is sent on an urgent mission with a former British spy, John Patrick Mason (Sean Connery), to stop Gen. Francis X. Hummel (Ed Harris) from launching chemical weapons on Alcatraz Island into San Francisco.
